Priority Deadline: May 21
I learned about the Coro Fellows Program last year and find it really impressive. It’s the flagship program of five Coro Centers that operate across the US, offering 9 months of full-time leadership development to aspiring civic leaders.
Coro was founded in 1942 in San Francisco at a time when leaders feared that democracy as a form of government was under threat. The founders believed that to allow democracy to flourish, they would need to cultivate a new generation of civic leaders, and so they developed a vision of educational discovery to accomplish this.
Today, 79 years later, the program is going strong and has groomed a nation-wide network of over 10k high-level leaders across industries and sectors with the knowledge, skills, and networks to accelerate positive change under challenging circumstances. Notable alum include US Senators, City Government executives and Citizen Sector leaders.
The Coro Center that’s recruiting a Trainer/Director is Coro Northern California. You’ll have the primary responsibility of directing the Coro Fellows Program for this center. To qualify, you’ll need a bachelors degree (or equivalent experience) plus 7 years of experience with leadership development, adult education and/or public policy (among other quals).
What I love
I think you’d be inspired by your clients - the Fellows - every day.
They seem to be very happy with the Fellowship, which tells me the design of the program (your product) is impactful. It’s a combo of experiential learning, face-to-face interaction with decision-makers (private, public, and non-profit), and development in analytical, group governance, and communication skills.
The outgoing Trainer/Director, Ericka Carlsen, has loved her 3 years in this role (“TBH it's an amazing job…”) and is staying with the org to launch a new set of leadership programs. See Erika’s reflections here. I think she’d be a great mentor for you in your new role. I had the pleasure of speaking with Erika about the fellowship last year and recall her positivity and passion for the work she’s gotten to do as Trainer/Director.
Tip!
If the Fellowship interests you more than the role, submit this interest form. Applications for the Class of 2022-2023 open this Summer.
If neither interests you, don’t miss the six core competencies for 21st century leadership that the program seeks to develop, i.e., self-awareness, critical thinking, communication, inclusion, collaboration, and empowered professionalism. They’re worth building and highlighting on your resume.
Don’t forget…
You can follow this org, read about its team, and follow the team members whose profiles inspire you - a great way to build your social impact scenius!
