Deadline: April 12, 5pm ET.
StartingBloc and its Board of Directors is recruiting new board members to join for a 2-year term beginning summer 2021. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who is passionate about StartingBloc’s mission, is excited about collaborating with a remote-working board, and wants to help this nonprofit chart a new path towards a more sustainable organizational model.
Over the next two years, StartingBloc will undergo a strategic planning process to determine its future. That process and decision-making will be led by the incoming board of directors. Time commitment is 10-20 hours per month and, do note, this position is unsalaried.
What I love
I’m a StartingBloc fellow (2017) so I’m a fan of this soulful org.
I like that the Board Chair, Alen Amini, spends his 9-5 with The Bridgespan Group, a leading social impact advisor to nonprofits and NGOs, philanthropists, and investors. (He’s also a StartingBloc Fellow, former Fulbright Fellow, and former Teaching for America Corps Member - triple woot!).
I’m happy to see the Board is encouraging applications from individuals of all backgrounds. As a fellow, I’m keen to see a diverse, high-performing team assembled.
Tip!
If you’ve never served on a nonprofit board before, but given your career goals, you see the value of gaining board governance experience, I encourage you to do your due diligence and some serious soul-searching before applying. This isn’t a small commitment. I like this Boardscource resource to help you determine if board service is right for you. If you decide it is, I like this Stanford Social Innovation Review article on the topic of how to serve and be truly effective at it (written by two respected authorities).
Don’t forget…
You can follow this org, read about its team, and follow the team members whose profiles inspire you - a great way to build your social impact scenius!
