I learned about this opportunity through my Stanford network. The Arena is an early stage, education startup that partners with schools and companies to build career pathways for young people.
Founded in 2018 by Stanford Alumni and social entrepreneurs, Claire Fisher (CEO) and Sam Leiter (COO), this young team is comprised of former educators, school leaders, consultants, and investors who are committed to dismantling the barriers that keep students from successful futures.
They are currently looking for a values-aligned, detail-oriented systems thinker who can join them to work on their product (a career pathways tool) as well as special projects, in addition to being a thought partner to Claire.
You have demonstrated interest in education and economic mobility and 2+ years of experience with progressive management responsibility (among other quals).
What I love
This is an opportunity to join an early stage startup. So much personal learning and stretch happens at this stage.
They’re not asking for a pedigree (i.e., fancy titles and diplomas). This shows me an interest in unusual suspects - one hallmark of a truly innovative team.
Do you snack on founder stories? Me too. Here’s Claire and Sam’s. Lots of gems for your impact journey, esp. if you’re an aspiring or active social entrepreneur.
In this role, you’ll report to Claire, who has stellar experience, including being a Teach for America corps member. I see she and Sam also won the coveted Social Innovation Fellowship at Stanford Business School, which tells me the co-founders and venture had a supported start. I think you’d learn a lot from them.
Finally, I dig the shout-out to servant leadership in the job description. If you’re an aspiring leader actively developing your leadership skills, this is a leadership philosophy worth exploring. If interested, see this recommended reading.
Don’t forget…
You can follow this org, read about its team, and follow the team members whose profiles inspire you - a great way to build your social impact scenius!
