A trusted colleague in my network put this org and opportunity on my radar, and I’m so glad she did. I loved spending an hour learning about Nia Tero. The soul of this org jumps off the pages of its website.
Nia Tero is a US-based non-profit working in solidarity with Indigenous peoples and movements worldwide to secure Indigenous guardianship of vital ecosystems. The team’s Chief Strategy & Operating Officer, Leigh Morgan, who is the lead architect of Nia Tero’s growth and impact, is currently recruiting a Senior Advisor & Lead of Impact Investments.
In this role, you’ll lead the screening and evaluation of potential investments, working closely with Leigh and other colleagues to ensure the org fulfills its mission and strategy. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree and 15 years of investment and other relevant experience. This position is part-time (24 hours/week), based anywhere in the US, and requires periodical visits to Seattle and/or to Nia Tero’s priority regions.
What I love
There’s so much to get excited about here.
It’s a part-time, WFA commitment so you’d have time for your side hustle, passion project, study, family, etc.
I look at the programs, storytelling, fellowships and the fact that you’d be shoulder to shoulder with some incredible “guardians” around the world and I think that you’d never be bored or unfulfilled.
Next I take a close look at the “Who We Are” page. Nia Tero’s team are of diverse Indigenous and non-Indigenous identities and life experiences. (A long list of non-Indigenous, white peeps would have been a serious red flag, given the org’s mission.)
Also, Nia Tero’s founding partners are the real deal - MacArthur Foundation, Emerson Collective, Mulago Foundation, and Conservation International - providing what I suspect is a rock-solid foundation of support for the org.
Finally, Leigh Morgan looks like a powerhouse, e.g., before joining Nia Tero, she was COO of the Gates Foundation. I see she started her career as a young professional in the North Carolina Justice Center. I’m guessing you’d learn a lot from her journey and leadership.
Don’t forget…
You can follow this org, read about its team, and follow the team members whose profiles inspire you - a great way to build your social impact scenius!
