Apply to Climate-KIC
Salary Transparency | None
Application Deadline | ASAP
Friend, I’ve been wanting to bring you an opportunity with Europe’s leading climate innovation initiative, and here it is! I really dig this global community of 400+ orgs. While this role is for someone EU-based (with work permissions), I recommend all subscribers have some familiarity with this org, particularly if you’re interested in working on complex, multi-sectoral, multi-partner projects in the climate / sustainability / energy space at some point in your career. This is Climate-KIC’s jam.
KIC, by the way, stands for Knowledge and Innovation Community. Among its current projects, Climate-KIC leads “NetZeroCities (NZC),” a 34-member consortium launched as part of the European Green Deal, and the NZC team is looking for some entry-level program management help.
I’ll let you dive into the details of the role. Heads up - the job description is wordy, but its written with clarity and heart (rare). Give yourself time to digest it. This is a team that knows itself, its values, why it exists and who it’s looking for. If you do invest the time, you’ll walk away better for it as a climate changemaker and a job seeker, even if you don’t apply. I almost never say that.
Standing back, here’s what I notice and love about this opportunity:
The city focus couldn’t be more important. According to the UN, 2 out of every 3 people are likely to be living in cities by 2050.
You’ll be learning how to change and innovate systems, which all of us need to learn to have impact in this space, irrespective of role, level, org, project, sector, etc.
This is a cracker jack team, i.e., really good at what it does. Don’t miss the Capability Framework it penned to help you understand the team’s talent and where you’d fit in. So few orgs do this kind of thinking, much less share it.
Finally, Climate-KIC is consciously adapting its own design to match the complexity of its work and, thus, is exploring 21st century topics like distributed leadership, empowerment and self-management, and intelligent risk-taking. Just…wow. Definitely not the norm yet in modern organizational life.
Ok, I could go on but I’ll stop. Feel free to reach out if you decide to apply and want to chat more about the opportunity. Always happy to be a thought partner. :)
P.S. Don’t forget to build your network as you job hunt!
