Deadline: April 30
Last year, in response to the historically unleveled playing field for minorities in the US, and the recent protests and police killings of unarmed African Americans, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation launched an initiative called the National Racial Equity Initiative for Social Justice (NREI) to support social reforms and education needed to advance the global Black community.
If you’re unfamiliar with it, the Foundation is a non-partisan, nonprofit, public policy, research and educational institute. As part of its year-long initiative, NREI Social Justice Fellows are placed in Congress with Caucus members to produce policy analysis and research related to education, economic opportunity, incarceration, the courts, and law enforcement.
The fellowship runs from June 2021 – June 2022, and you enter it with demonstrated commitment to social justice plus 5 years of community activism or grassroots organizing OR a graduate/professional degree (among other quals).
What I love
An all Black female leadership team at the Foundation!
Two six-month rotations - one on the Hill and one with the Foundation’s Center for Policy Analysis and Research.
The opportunity to work alongside and develop rapport with key leaders in all areas of social justice. Just wow! Assuming you give this experience 100%, you’ll undoubtedly complete it with valuable legislative and policy analysis experience, enhanced leadership skills, an expanded network AND a powerful springboard to your next level professionally.
Tips!
This won’t be a quick application to pull together (e.g., the list of requested materials involves others), so if you’re interested in applying, I recommend getting started asap!
If you don’t know who John R. Lewis is, don’t apply without getting properly introduced to this titan of Congress and the Civil Rights Movement who passed away just last year.
Don’t forget…
You can follow this org, read about its team, and follow the team members whose profiles inspire you - a great way to build your social impact scenius!
