I’m back from summer break, friends! Ready for some cool opportunities? :)
Deadline: September 6!
This is an exciting idea - developing the next gen of venture capital leaders in communities where entrepreneurs face barriers accessing capital. HBCUvc is doing this capacity-building work with its HBCU VC Fellowship program and reimagining the US innovation economy in the process.
The HBCU VC Fellowship runs in Fall 2021 from September 27 to November 9 and is designed for HBCU students and alumni who have an interest in learning how investing in technology companies works and obtaining a summer internship or full-time role in venture capital.
(If unfamiliar, HBCUs are historically black colleges and universities. These institutions of higher education in the US were established before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with the intention of primarily serving the African-American community. More here).
If you’re eligible for this unique Fellowship and looking for an on-ramp to the Venture Capital industry, watch the below video to learn more and get your questions answered. The video is approximately 1 hour and led by Tobi Shannon, a Spelman College alum and recent HBCUvc Fellow.
What I love:
This is a Black and women-led team that's lived the work it advocates for. Check out the journey of Hadiyah Mujhid, Founder & CEO.
The team is disrupting a process steeped in inequality (more here).
As a Fellow, you’ll learn investment fundamentals from the nation's top experts and mentors (like Arlan Hamilton - WOOT!) and then you’ll immediately put what you've learned into action through the VC Lab Fund clinic, where you’ll be given the opportunity to identify startups from your own community to fund and support.
Tip!
If you plan to apply, don’t miss reading the 10-pg Application Guide.
