After researching this org and team, I’m a fan. See below video. Has me pumped! Chicago Beyond is an impact investor backing the fight against inequities pervasive in Chicago’s communities. Its model is justice-driven. It invests in learning, individuals, and orgs that fight for all youth to achieve their fullest human potential. Launched in 2016 by Liz Dozier, the org seeks a mission-aligned Growth Manager to join its Growth team.
Reporting to Monique Wilson, Senior Director of Investments, you’ll take potential investment opportunities from sourcing to investment; lead development, execution, and outcomes for partnerships with investments; and pursue high potential ideas, approaches and learning initiatives in service of partners and youth. You bring to this role an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to lead teams (among other quals).
What I love
Small, ambitious start-up team with a deep understanding of the problem they’re trying to solve. See story here.
Inspiring portfolio of ventures, e.g., Dovetail Project. See ventures here.
Strong emphasis on learning in your responsibilities. A sign you’ll have the opportunity to grow in this role.
Inclusion of the team’s values in the job description, along with the final note that begins with: “Please note there is no standard candidate profile.” I’m seeing the latter with increasing frequency and feeling so encouraged by it.
Finally, Liz and Monique are impressive leaders. Liz is a nationally renowned former educator and high school principal, and Monique is a former Teach for America corps member and former BCG consultant. I think you’d learn a lot from these women, e.g., see Liz in this convo on Unpacking White Privilege: How to be a White Ally and an Anti Racist.
