The Obama Foundation is scouting a Deputy Director to lead Network Impact for the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBKA). President Obama launched MBK in 2014 to address persistent opportunity gaps facing boys and young men of color and to ensure all youth can reach their full potential. In 2015, MBKA was launched to scale and sustain this mission. In 2017, MBKA became an initiative of the Obama Foundation. Today, within the Foundation, MBKA focuses on building safe and supportive communities for boys and young men of color. You bring to this leadership role significant experience in developing and executing social impact strategies and theories of change (among other quals). I don’t see a salary figure, but it appears the job’s location is flexible: CA, IL, NY or DC.
What I love
Such an inspiring program (and org!) with an ambitious mission.
In this role, you’ll be collaborating with MBKA Executive Director, Michael Smith, to lead a cross-sector national call to action. And Michael looks like an exciting leader with some serious “social innovation” muscle. Note his previous work at the White House, Corporation for National Service, and CASE Foundation.
The MBKA Network that you’ll be strengthening includes 250+ communities across the US - nice reach!
The job description includes a very clear (jargon free) statement of Key Deliverables/Outcomes. I don’t see this often. It shows thought and consideration and will set you up for success.
The job description also emphasizes type of experience over formal academic training, i.e., there is no degree requirement and no required number of years of experience. For me, this is an org walking its “inclusivity” talk. There are so many ways to learn and grow in one’s life and leadership.
And don’t forget to…
Build your network by following this org and team members who inspire you!
