I keep my eye on The Aspen Institute because of the respected convening work this group has been doing since 1949. The Institute is a nonpartisan forum that brings together people with different outlooks to exchange ideas, search for common ground and make the world a better place.
One of the Institute’s (many) programs is the Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation (PSI). Led by Jane Wales, PSI works to maximize the impact of social sector actors - e.g., grantmaking foundations, nonprofits, social enterprises - through leadership development initiatives, convenings, and communications.
PSI’s theory of change rests on the premise that if social sector leaders have clarity about their values, are collaborative in their approach to problem-solving, and are aware of the strategies and potential partnerships available to them, they are more likely to succeed in advancing social good.
PSI is currently recruiting an Associate Director to work with Jane on program activities and signature convenings. You bring to this role an undergraduate degree and 7-10 years of experience in the charitable sector (among other quals).
What I love
Jane Wales is a heavy-weight. You can read more about her distinguished career here. I can’t imagine how much you’d learn from her - and the other members of this small team.
One of your key areas of work with Jane will be the Aspen Philanthropy Group, a small gathering of leaders in philanthropy and civil society who are at the cutting edge of social change. This, too, will be an outstanding learning lab (and network-building opportunity) for you.
The location of the role is flexible - NYC, DC or other.
Tips
If you decide to apply for this role, take an hour to review the Institute’s 2020 Impact Report. This report will give you a 30,000 foot view of the Institute’s work - important intel for your application and subsequent interviews.
Don’t forget…
You can follow this org, read about its team, and follow the team members whose profiles inspire you - a great way to build your social impact scenius!
